First Racing Post Yearling Bonus claimed
The first Racing Post Yearling Bonus race was won on Monday 29th of March at Lingfield by Primo Lady (Lucky Story) she was bought at the DBS St Leger Festival Yearling sales for £5,000 and won £12,047 (£2,047 plus £10,000 bonus) on her debut.
The first RPYB race was hosted at the Curragh on the opening day of the season but was won by a horse not in the scheme, it was therefore rolled forward to the next race. The bonus funds were raised by the vendors of yearlings in 2009 paying an initial £250 to register the yearling, then a further £250 if the yearling was sold. To complete eligibility the purchasers had the option to pay a final £250 and the sales houses increased the funds by adding 10% of the vendors contribution. The total fund pool is now of £2,600,000, which means 260 Racing Post Yearling Post races are up to be won and will be distributed between England, Ireland and Europe.
