- Steeple Chases abandoned after further rain
- One new Hurdle race now forms part of a six race card
After further rainfall this week, the steeple chase course at Newton Abbot is now waterlogged. With the forecast suggesting there will be more wet weather before racing, the Newton Abbot Executive in conjunction with the BHA Inspectorate, has been forced to abandon the Steeple Chases scheduled for Tuesday 1 September.
In response, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has programmed an additional Hurdle race in an attempt to safeguard this fixture. The card will now be made up of five Hurdle races and a Standard Open National Hunt Flat race.
Newton Abbot’s going on the Hurdles course is currently described as Soft; Heavy in places.
The new race, a Class 4, 0-105 Handicap Hurdle Race over 2m 1f, will be free to enter and close at noon on Friday 28 August. Declarations are to be made in line with the existing races by 10am on Monday 31 August.
