The BHA has released a distinctive set of owner’s colours, to be sold as a ‘right to register’ through a silent auction. Valued at £15,000 – £20,000, all of the proceeds will be donated to the BHA’s official charity, Retraining of Racehorses.

The charity promotes and facilitates the re-homing and re-training of former racehorses to give them the best opportunity for a second career after their retirement, some going on to compete successfully in other fields, such as dressage and show-jumping.

White, cerise and black hoops with a hooped cap, the colours are a striking design. Cerise is one of the ‘cherished colours’, those historical colours that are no longer part of the standard palette. Similarly, three coloured hoops have not been permissible since the standardisation of colours was introduced in 1971. It is believed that there are fewer than 25 colours that sport this distinctive design, out of more than 14,000 registered in total. This is the only chance to own this particular set.

All the proceeds will go to RoR, Di Arbuthnot, Chief Executive of RoR, said:

“We are very grateful to the BHA for making these unique ‘colours’ available. This will help us continue our vital work supporting the transition of racehorses into retirement.”

Taking the form of a silent auction, and administered by Weatherbys on behalf of the BHA, the bidding closes on Friday 17 April 2015.
