After a gusty victory in the San Diego Handicap (G2), CALIFORNIA CHROME (USA) [128] has improved his rating from 126 to 128 and is the second highest rated horse in the world in the sixth edition of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2016.

California Chrome was making his first start back since his 3 ¾-length victory in the Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1) this March. He is a perfect four-for-four in 2016, with wins in the San Pasqual Stakes (G2) and Trans Gulf Electromechanical Trophy also to his credit.
In his first start of the year, multiple Grade 1 winner DORTMUND (USA) [122] finished just a half-length behind California Chrome in the San Diego. The two are slated to meet again in the TVG Pacific Classic (G1) on Aug. 20.
That Saturday will be a busy one for top international horses, as Australia’s star mare WINX (AUS) [127] is set to make her spring debut in the Warwick Stakes (G2).
Just behind Winx in the latest rankings is FROSTED (USA) [126], who followed up his Mohegan Sun Metropolitan Handicap (G1) score with a victory in the Whitney Stakes (G1).
Meanwhile, THE GURKHA (IRE) [122] has improved his rating from 120 to 122 with his neck victory over GALILEO GOLD (GB) [122] in the Qatar Sussex Stakes (G1). RIBCHESTER (IRE) [121] was a short head back in third.
Additionally, HIGHLAND REEL (IRE) [121] is ranked after his win in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1).
