The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today announced that due to the Tour de Yorkshire cycling event taking place on 5 May, the fixture slot allotted to Thirsk on that day has now been transferred to Wetherby. Wetherby’s slot on 8 May has been transferred to Thirsk.
Given the fact that the Thirsk fixture could no longer take place on 5 May this is the best available outcome to ensure that the programme is maintained in the region as best as possible and to allow both fixtures to take place. Cards for both meetings will be published in the Programme Book and Racing Calendar in due course and to the usual timings. Fixture information will also be available via www2.racingadmin.co.uk.
Jack Connor, Racing Development Manager at the BHA, said:
“When the route for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire was released in December it became clear that it could impact Thirsk’s fixture.
“As Wetherby is not on the route it made sense to make this swap which will mean that the events can co-exist with minimal effect on owners, participants, and the horse population.”
