The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today announced that the Jump fixture at Ayr on Monday 30 April announced yesterday has been moved to Monday 7 May.
This is to allow for the programmed Jump jockeys’ break to take place from 28 April – 5 May. The fixture had previously been programmed without consideration of the break period.
The opportunity to stage a Flat fixture on Monday 30 April will be offered out to northern Flat racecourses in the coming days.
Full fixture details for Ayr’s Jump fixture on Monday 7 May and the new Flat fixture on Monday 30 April will be confirmed in due course.
Paul Johnson, Head of Racing at the BHA, said:
“The wellbeing of our participants is a priority for us all, and it is for this reason that we scheduled the Jump break in the first place.
“The Jump schedule in the north had been seriously affected by the weather in recent weeks and months and we have tried to schedule additional fixtures when it is feasible to do so. At the time we took this opportunity to provide additional northern jump races at Ayr, we didn’t factor in the Jumps break.
“Although the fixture should not have been programmed during the break, we have acted as quickly as we can to redress it and hopefully the transfer of Ayr’s Jump fixture to Monday 7 May allows Jump jockeys to take their well-earned break.
“Our thanks go to Ayr racecourse for accommodating the change of date, and the Levy Board for assisting with the funding.”
