Indigenous (ire) (formerly Qualtron (ire))
Published: 3 June 1999
The Stewards of the Jockey Club have agreed as a special exception that the name of the horse registered as QUALTRON (IRE) should be cancelled and re-registered as INDIGENOUS (IRE).
The decision follows a request made via the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the name of a horse currently running in Hong Kong as INDIGENOUS (IRE) to be changed to that name having previously been registered by Weatherbys as QUALTRON (IRE). Before being exported to Hong Kong it ran nine times in Ireland as QUALTRON (IRE) winning three races. The decision took account of the fact that the horse is likely to be entered in the King George and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes as Hong Kong’s first competitor in the World Series. It is also likely to run in the Hong Kong leg of the World Series.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club have indicated that, in the light of this incident and increased overseas travel by Hong Kong trained horses, they will review the practice of allowing changes of names for horses imported into Hong Kong.
