Following the abandonment of racing at Newbury on Saturday 23rd March, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is pleased to confirm that both the European Breeders’ Fund/Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Mares’ Novices’ Steeple Chase Finale (A Handicap) (Class 1) (Listed Race) and the E.B.F. Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle Race Finale (A Limited Handicap) (Class 1) (Listed Race) have been rescheduled.
The Chase Finale will now be run at Cheltenham on Thursday 18th April and the Hurdle Finale will now take place at Kempton on Tuesday 16th April. Original entries will not stand and both races will be re-opened.
The Chase Finale will close for entries at noon on Friday 12th April, with the Hurdle Finale closing for entries at noon on Wednesday 10th April.
Cheryl Caves, General Manager at the European Breeders’ Fund (EBF), said:
“The EBF and Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (TBA) are delighted that these two important Mares’ Listed races have been saved. It is vital that black-type opportunities for fillies and mares are preserved, and we are extremely grateful to BHA for their hard work in rescheduling these races. Thanks also go to Cheltenham and Kempton Park for stepping in as replacement venues.”
The BHA would also like to thank EBF, TBA, the Levy Board, Cheltenham Racecourse and Kempton Park for their help in rescheduling these races.
