Plus 10 prize pool of £1.6 million on offer up until June
A total bonus prize pool of £1.6 million will be available to qualified winners of Plus 10 races in Britain and Ireland between March and June.
The British and Irish Plus 10 race programme for March-June, which is now live at plus10bonus.com, features 106 British and 43 Irish races which will carry the £10,000 or €12,500 Plus 10 bonuses payable to qualified winners.*
Plus 10 bonuses are split between the owner at the time of the horse’s win (75%), the payers of the scheme’s first two registration stages (10% each) and the trainer, jockey and stable staff associated with the winning horse (5%).
All British Class 2-4 maiden (open, auction and median auction), novice and conditions races, plus all Class 5 fillies’ only maiden races (including auction and median auction) in 2015 will feature a Plus 10 bonus; based upon 2014 race figures this is expected to total around 386 races across the entire Flat season.
In Ireland, where there are 100 bonuses available to qualified two-year-olds in 2015, Plus 10 bonuses will feature on all two-year-old, non-black-type races until all 100 bonuses are won.
Across the entire year, this is expected to amount to up to 138 maidens (104 open maiden, 15 auction maiden and 19 median auction maidens), 11 winners races and 27 nurseries.
Commenting on the Plus 10 programme, Ruth Quinn, Director of Racing at the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), said: “Plus 10 offers many opportunities for two-year-olds to boost earnings early in their career. A range of opportunities exists for a maiden horse to win, either in open or restricted maiden company, with the added option of moving on to an early novice or conditions event.
“There are also specific opportunities for owners of horses purchased at the lower end of the bloodstock sales market, with approximately 14 auction and median auction maidens at Class 4 level in 2015.
“The offering is even more compelling for owners of fillies with some 42 Class 5 fillies’ only maiden races set to be staged between March and June, and a total of 111 estimated across the entire British Flat season.”
Horse Racing Ireland’s Director of Racing, Jason Morris said: “While the majority of Ireland’s two-year-old races carrying Plus 10 bonuses fall in the latter half of the year, the historically smaller fields earlier in the season means that there will be a great chance for owners to recoup a quick return on their investment.
“With 10, 11 and 19 maiden races set for each of March/April, May and June respectively, there are plenty of opportunities for early maturing two-year-olds to sweep up a €12,500 bonus in Ireland on their way to collecting further bonuses in the latter half of the year via a winners race (approximately eight races) or nursery (approximately 27 races).”
The first Plus 10 races will be held across a £40,000 “Plus 10 weekend” on March 28-29 at Doncaster, Kempton Park, Chelmsford City and The Curragh when the four courses will each feature a £10,000 (or €12,500) bonus.
