After further recent rain in the region, the Steeple Chase course at Wincanton is now unraceable so Wincanton, in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Inspectorate, has been forced to abandon the Steeple Chases scheduled for Saturday, February 16th. In response, the BHA has programmed three additional Hurdle race opportunities. Wincanton’s going on the Hurdles course is currently described as Heavy, Soft in Places.
The three new races will be free to enter and close at noon on Tuesday, February 12th. Declarations are to be made in line with the existing races by 10am on Friday, February 15th.
Barry Johnson, Clerk Of The Course at Wincanton, reported:
“After walking the course with Richard Linley, Senior Course Inspector, it has been agreed to abandon the Steeple Chases as the chase course is waterlogged in places, with various false patches. The current forecast gives us no chance of recovery before Saturday.”
