Announcement of Results Speeded Up
Published: 9 January 1997
Plans to announce the results of races significantly earlier will be considered by the Stewards of the Jockey Club on Monday 13 January.
The time taken between the end of a race and the official announcement of the result has a direct effect on the levy. In recent months the Jockey Club has taken several steps to speed up this process by introducing new viewing equipment, improving communications and shortening procedures.
The further proposals, which will be considered on Monday, include measures for conducting certain racecourse enquiries over the telephone, between the Stewards in the Main Viewing Box and jockeys gathered in the Enquiry Room.
The Tote has already generously funded the present improved communications system and has agreed to provide the extra equipment required for these proposals. It will involve the installation of four TV monitors and a tannoy system in the Main Viewing Box and a further monitor in the Weighing Room.
Subject to the Stewards` approval at their meeting, the new procedures will go on trial at Southwell in February and if successful will be extended to Lingfield and Wolverhampton. Subsequently they may be introduced on other racecourses.
