- Remedial work to the Straight Course forces abandonment of three sprint races
- Three Round Course races added to card
- Entries for new races to close at noon on Thursday 14 July
Ayr Racecourse has been forced to abandon the sprint races due to be staged on Monday 18 July. An aged field drain that requires repair was discovered under the surface of the track following racing earlier this week. Work on the drain began on Tuesday afternoon and the surface will then be reinstated which will take several days. Sprints cannot take place on the straight course until this work has been completed and the area inspected by the BHA Course Inspector.
The BHA has abandoned the 5f Class 4 Handicap (44782), the 6f Class 5 Handicap (44784) and the 6f Class 6 Maiden Auction (44787) and has added three round course races to the card. They comprise of an 8f Class 6 Handicap, a 7f Fillies’ Maiden Auction and a 7f Class 4 Handicap.
Clerk of the Course Emma Marley said:
“Following track reinstatement operations after racing on Monday we found a sunken area of ground approximately one metre square off the stands’ side rail in the Sprint chute. We had the area professionally surveyed using ground penetrating radar and found a very aged field drain that requires repair. At all times the safety and welfare of our competitors is our primary concern and we need time to resolve the issue. As a result the three races due to be run on the sprint course on Monday will be rescheduled over further distances.”
The new races will close at noon on Thursday, 14 July. Declarations are to be made by 10am on Saturday 16 July.
