“Race programmes to be published in this week’s Racing Calendar will be the first advertised in accordance with the new minimum race values which the British Horseracing Board has just set for 1999.
This follows the welcome news recently announced by the Horserace Betting Levy Board that they are to inject a further £2 million into prize money for next year. BHB has taken the opportunity to strengthen the minima in races for horses of ability with increases in Listed races and Classes B, C & D on the Flat, and Classes B, C & D for National Hunt racing. In addition, National Hunt Flat races will receive a boost in recognition of the important role that they are now playing in bringing on young purpose-bred jumping horses.
It will be noted that Listed races for 3-year-olds and upwards on the Flat will at last reach a minimum of £20,000 next year. In 1998, this minimum stood at £16,250.
