“Peter Bell, Controller of Programme Policy BBC News, has been appointed as the BHB’s first Public Relations Director. He will join the Board on 3rd December 1998.
After graduating from Oxford and after three years as a reporter for the Reading Evening Post, Peter Bell (49) joined the BBC in 1973 as a producer for Radio Brighton. This was followed by spells as a Producer for several of the BBC’s flagship Current Affairs programmes on both Radio and TV, prior to successive appointments as Managing Editor of BBC TV News Daily Programmes, Editor of BBC TV News programmes and Head of BBC News Programmes.
BHB Chairman, Peter Savill, said:
“”We are delighted to have secured the services of someone with an outstanding record of success in the media and in strategic development. This, combined with Peter Bell’s knowledge of and interest in Racing, will be invaluable as we continue to move the industry forward, improve its finances and raise its profile.””
Peter Bell commented:
“”I’m looking forward to it enormously. I’ve had 25 very good years at the BBC, and I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy some of the most rewarding jobs you can find in news broadcasting anywhere in the world. But racing has always been my other great passion. It’s a challenging time for the sport and the opportunity to join the industry’s governing body was just too tempting to resist.””
