BHB CALLS FOR GREATER PROTECTION OF PUNTERS

“Peter Savill, Chairman of the BHB, today called on the Levy Board to take control of the Green Seal Service, which arbitrates in betting disputes.
The Sporting Life managed the service until its demise in May and plans are currently under discussion between BOLA and the Mirror Group to take over responsibility from the Racing Post. SIS are rumoured to be likely sponsors following the take over.
Peter Savill said today:

“”It is important that the management of the Service is not only impartial but is seen to be impartial. Punters are one of the two key contributors to the racing industry and the BHB has a responsibility to speak up for them.
“”The BHB feels strongly that the Levy Board, as distributor of those funds, should seek to protect punters’ money by setting up an appropriate body to handle disputes and monitor complaints.
“”It is hard to see how the proposed system can be seen as impartial and it is important that the Racing Post should have the freedom to comment on such disputes if necessary.
“”It may cost £100,000 to set up a satisfactory arbitration system but Racing would willingly support this cost allocation in the interest of punters””.
