Tristram Ricketts, Chief Executive of the British Horseracing Board, commenting on the decision by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to block the Ladbroke/Coral merger, said today:

“The decision is a concern and will remain a concern at least until it becomes clear as to where this leaves the Tote. BHB has argued throughout that it is vital for Racing and the punter that significant benefits should accrue to the Tote. We need to know the scope for, and extent of, any Tote acquisitions which may be possible as a result of the Secretary of Stateís decision before we pass judgement.”
