Waterlogging between the five furlong and seven furlong starts has forced the Leicester Executive, in consultation with the BHA’s Racecourse Inspectorate, to cancel three races at its fixture on July 25th. In response, the BHA’s Racing Department has programmed three new races, which will close according to the normal schedule, i.e., at noon on Thursday, July 19th. Declarations to run will also follow the normal procedure.
Therefore, race numbers 44871, 44873 and 44875 over six and seven furlongs will not take place and have been replaced by the following races:
Race no 44877 10f 3yo 66-85 Class 4 Handicap
Race no 44878 10f 3yo and 4yo Class 6 Median Auction Maiden
Race no 44879 5f 3yo+ 56-75 Class 5 Handicap
Consequently, the running order has been altered to reduce the movement of the stalls.
The current going description is heavy, waterlogged in places. However, with a more positive weather forecast, Jimmy Stevenson, clerk of the course at Leicester, is more confident that racing will take place. He said, “After a band of rain pushes through on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, we are forecast a weekend of dry weather, which looks likely to extend into next week. All we need is three or four dry days and we would be much more hopeful of being able to race.“
